This meant no only a opportunity of look the class, because Mrs. Gomez gave me the opportunity to teach and helped her in all kind of activities with her students,  I learn how can we teach in different ways, no matter if the students have learning difficult, because she teaches using many technologic resources, like cameras, multimedia project, laptop, and other, even though, the root of the success in learning process is based in the strategies, encourage and significant activities develop like a master piece by Mrs. Gomez. I toke advantage about how can I get better my job in my country, using this strategies and unforgettable classes: Projects, games, investigations, and working in stations.

JANUARY 20, MORE THAN A MARCH, IT IS A PRIDE IN THE NAME OF OUR RACE

“I have a dream,… I saw the promise land, a place with no violence, a place without differences, a place for all of us, where we are all like siblings, where we share the bread, where I can say at last freedom, a place with peace, love and hope…I imagine a wander in that dream, I imagine people so happy, I imagine children smiling, and in that dream my feet on the ground with a blue sky over my head…”

Image

On December 17, I visited Houston City, and I could discover a world of art, culture, science and technology. During this trip, I had the opportunity to know museums like Natural Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Johnson Space Center. In this kind of trip we can be part of a great center of Knowledge, where all kind of people learn of nature, history and technology. Teachers from different schools in this area, take advantage of this great resource for teaching their students and develop the learning in a innovative way. They also enjoy with parents looking the exhibition which give lot of interest information.

STARTING A NEW EXPERIENCE WITH DR CINDY HERBERT. WRITING AND READING.

Read and write

Why read?

* For information

* To connect with the world

* To exchange information and learn about the general culture and culture of the community.

* To follow instructions or build scripts.

* To solve problems.

* To learn about rules, regulations and laws of the society that surrounds the student.

In this class we read a text by marking each 20, 10, 5, words.

When every 20 words were marked read not mentioned the word and text not is realized the idea of this, inferia but not be included; and the difficulties grew when increased the number of words that are omitian. Here it shows the difficulty that usually have children when they learn to read and ignored words in the text.

Topics which may be more interesting to my students.

* Odds.

* Methods of counting: permutations and combinations

* Equations

* Elementary algebra:

-Operations with algebraic expressions.

-Cases of factoring

I hope in this course:

* An effective method to teach how to read and write.

* How to help children with reading problems at secondary levels.

Phonetics:

* The symbols have no meaning, it is necessary to grasp that each symbol has its own sense.

The b, d, p, q, have different sense.

Developed a dynamic where we made a challenge to count numbers written in caps where they were ordered, usually used to tell time was 5 or 6 seconds.

Image

Then it became so disorderly in a row and with all the messy numbers, and the result was more difficult to count, in the second round with a messy row took 15 and 17 seconds, and in the third round the time was 33 seconds.

This highlights the difficulty of working with problems of dyslexia, because with this difficulty students library a hard battle to build mental schemes.

Read with a partner.

We then develop a reading for secondary activity, where the reading level of everyone in the classroom is classified.

The book to read is: versions and diversions of a circus.

In this activity students are located in pairs, trying that in each pair a student locate out-done and one with reading problems.

Both will read for a minute and they would mark far reach, trying to give the proper intonation and respecting the punctuation of the text.

Then repeat the dynamics but in order to read the most words; then is targeting the amounts of words read in a minute and will program in bars to analyze the results between the two students. Then it repeats the dynamics, until it achieves a significant improvement of reading level.

The books are dosified according to the student’s reading level. And to ensure that these are general interest, according to the tastes of young people.

Visiting East Central District…My future site for practicing.

Image

On November 15th, we went to Highland School(K-3), Salado Intermediate School(4-5) and Legacy Middle School(6-8). On these schools we could look how teachers work with students of different age, since Kinder to Middle School, at the same time we could share ideas with students and teachers, who explained the strategies applied in each class, it was a pretty good experience, in which we knew more about the educational system of this State(Texas).

I hope on January, I will practice like a teacher in one of these schools, so this represent an opportunity to meet students and teachers that can help me to do my job in a best way…

In every school I learn many things that I can use in my own lessons, teachers write ideas for connecting the environment with students, using context to teach some topics. Each institution has an structure so organized, the work in teams do easier the learning, the environment is comfortable for students and teachers, students learn to read and write since Kinder and each school strengthen  the bilingual educative system beginning in kinder with  a 90% of the lesson in Spanish and 10% of English, and so gradually they get in 5th grade a 50 and 50% of Spanish and English.

SQA an strategy to connect topics…

IMG_6608

When we develop some topics, we must be careful to select this, because, sometimes these can’t be  interesting for students, and the learning is not productive. In the Bloom taxonomy this part represents the start in an unforgettable experience, if we can choose a good topic for students, we can get enough encourage to caught their attention and their complete interest to get a best learning. This is an important part of a lesson plan, even though, there is an other part which help us to get a best learning, and this part is “connect the aims with students”. always and then we catch the attention of students, we can guaranty the success of the topic. In this part of an unforgettable lesson, we can use the strategy SQA, beginning with the letter S, which represent What students know about the topic, they analyse and write all the pre-knowledge  that they have and the teacher can take advantage of this knowledge for building a new one. At the second time students write what they need or want to know about the topic, in the letter Q, and this help to guide the way of the topic development. At the end of the lesson the students write what they learned of the lesson previously developed. this Strategy allows to connect the aims with students starting with the previous knowledge that they have.

Water is hope for the future…

Water is life, and it represents the hope for the next generations. Thanks to the water, the nature has color, and the humans can survive currently.

IMG_7740IMG_7547IMG_7749

The water is one of the natural resources most important to live, but currently it is one of the most polluted in the world, perhaps we don’t care of the real importance of this big resource.

On November 7th, we could join in a conference developed in Palo Alto College. In this conference, we could know many things about water, stones(Geology),pollution and  treatment of water, and also wells. This meant a huge opportunity for me, because we did many interesting and fun activities, across from which Sussie Pierce and Mr. Andrew Stone explain the real importance of water.

DSC01609    DSC01555   DSC01620   DSC01622

The challenge for all of us is: From now on we need to make conscience of water, because our students deserve to have a future with a guarantee of water net and pure.
